Delight in the Journey

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: 1 Samuel 22:2–23:29, John 10:1–21, Psalm 115:1–18, Proverbs 15:18–19

Celebrate the Small Victories

Lately, the Lord has been teaching me something deeply personal about joy, vision, and contentment.

Just yesterday, He was reminding me to dream with Him again — to be excited about the future, to imagine what He has promised, and to regularly picture myself walking in the things He placed in my heart. But sometimes it’s easy to slip into feeling discouraged because we haven’t arrived there yet.

There are moments when I feel overwhelmed by how much there still is to build, create, learn, or accomplish. Sometimes it is easy to look at the small numbers, the slow growth, or the unfinished process and feel discouraged. But every time I begin slipping into that mindset, the Lord brings me back to Zechariah 4:10:

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin…” (NLT)

He brought comfort to me with that verse, and suddenly my perspective begins to shift again. I begin noticing the victories I almost overlooked:
the new follower,
the encouraging comment,
the conversation that touched someone,
the devotional that reached a hurting heart,
the simple fact that the work is still moving forward and spreading little by little.

Those things matter. Each one is a victory and another stone in building the wall!

But I have to be honest… this has been something I’ve had to practice intentionally. It’s not always easy.

He knows we need constant reminding, so today He brings balance with this Gem of Knowledge that says,

“Delight in what I give you now. If you are always looking for more, you will never be satisfied. Take time to appreciate the victories of each day, then your journey will always be a delight, no matter where you are in the process.”

That does not mean we stop dreaming. It does not mean we stop pursuing what God has promised or lose excitement for the future. God absolutely gives vision, purpose, goals, and direction. He wants us to partner with faith and expectancy.

But He also wants us to experience joy while walking toward those promises.

David’s life in today’s reading reflects this beautifully. David had already been anointed king, yet he was still hiding in caves and running for his life. The promise over his life was real, but the fulfillment had not yet arrived. Imagine if David had spent every day miserable simply because he was “not there yet.”

Instead, we repeatedly see David learning dependence on God in the middle of the process. God guided him, protected him, strengthened him, and surrounded him with people along the way. The cave was not the throne, but it was still sacred because God was present there too.

I think many of us accidentally postpone our joy until some future moment:
once the ministry grows,
once finances improve,
once healing comes,
once life finally feels settled,
once the dream fully manifests.

But Jesus said in John 10:10:

“My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” (NLT)

A rich life is not only found at the destination. It is found in walking daily with the Shepherd.

There is something beautiful about learning to recognize God in the middle of unfinished seasons. Sometimes His goodness appears in dramatic breakthroughs, but often it appears quietly in daily provision, small progress, gentle growth, unexpected peace, and the strength to simply keep going.

Psalm 115 reminds us again and again that the Lord is our help and shield. Not just someday when everything is complete — but right now, in the middle of the building process too.

And Proverbs 15:15 says:

“For the happy heart, life is a continual feast.” (NLT)

What a powerful truth.

A joyful heart does not ignore the future. It simply learns to celebrate God’s faithfulness along the way there.

So yes, dream with God.
Imagine the future He has placed in your heart.
Build faithfully toward it.

But do not miss the beauty of these small beginnings too.

Someday, you may look back and realize these quiet little victories were some of the most meaningful moments of the entire journey. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

take time to be with the Lord today, even if only 5 minutes. Ask Him:

  • Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally today?”
    • Write down what He reveals through His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Write down what He reveals – then do it!

Take time to thank Him for the progress you have seen instead of only focusing on what has not happened yet. Reflect on the small victories, answered prayers, lessons, opportunities, and growth that are already unfolding in your life right now.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving us dreams, vision, and hope for the future. Help me to walk toward those promises with faith and expectancy while still finding joy in the journey along the way. Forgive me for the times I overlook today’s blessings because I am too focused on tomorrow. Open my eyes to the small victories, quiet growth, and daily reminders of Your faithfulness. Teach me to celebrate the process, knowing that You are present not only in the fulfillment, but also in the becoming. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
