Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Joshua 19:1-20:9, Luke 19:28-48, Psalm 88:1-18, Proverbs 13:12-14
God’s Perfect Design
It can be easy to look at our lives and think we aren’t smart enough, good enough, pretty enough, successful enough, or we are less than others. We may compare what we have, where we are, or what we’ve been given, and question whether God’s plan for us is truly good.
But this Gem reminds us of God’s heart for us,
“Everyone is given their portion according to their purpose. Their purpose is designed to fulfill My purposes, but also to fulfill them and bring them joy. My heart is for everyone to find joy and satisfaction in Me, but also in themselves and all I designed for them. Never doubt My heart and intentions for you. They are always good. Amen.”
What we have been given is not random, and it is not lacking. It is intentional. Every portion is assigned according to purpose, and that purpose is not only meant to serve God’s plan, but also to bring fulfillment and joy to us.
In today’s reading in Joshua, we see the distribution of land among the tribes of Israel. Each tribe is given its inheritance, its portion, its place. But something stands out when we look closely at Joshua himself. He is the leader, the one who has faithfully guided the people, fought battles, and carried the weight of responsibility. Yet he does not take his portion first.
He waits.
Joshua receives his inheritance last, after everyone else has been given theirs. There is no striving, no grasping, no positioning himself to secure something better. He walks in humility and trust, knowing that what is meant for him will be given in the right time. And when it is finally given, he is allowed to choose where he wants to settle. The one who did not strive for position is given the freedom to choose his portion.
There is something powerful in that.
Joshua didn’t have to fight for his place because he was already positioned by God. His portion was not something he had to claim—it was something that was given freely. And in that, we see the heart of God. He is not withholding from us. He is not assigning us something lesser. He is giving according to purpose, and His intention is always good.
This truth is important to hold onto, especially when life doesn’t feel the way we expected it to. In Psalm 88, we see a very different tone. The psalmist is crying out from a place of deep struggle, feeling overwhelmed and even forgotten. There is no quick resolution in that passage, and yet it reflects something real—there are moments when we don’t understand what God is doing or why things feel the way they do.
And in those moments, it becomes even more important to remember who God is.
The Gem reminds us clearly: never doubt His heart and His intentions for you. They are always good.
Even when we don’t see the full picture. Even when our portion doesn’t look like what we expected. Even when the timing feels delayed.
od’s design for your life is not only about fulfilling His purposes, but also about bringing you into a place of joy and satisfaction in Him. That doesn’t mean every moment will feel easy, but it does mean that what He has assigned to you is not meant to harm you or leave you empty. It is meant to shape you, fulfill you, and draw you closer to Him.
Joshua saw many battles before he received his portion. Without those battles, there would have been no land to inherit. The battles were the very things that made the inheritance possible. Each one taught him, strengthened him, and prepared him for everything God had for his future. It was all working together for his good.
What feels like a battle right now may be the very thing preparing you for what God has already set aside for you.
When we begin to trust that, comparison starts to lose its grip. We no longer need to measure our portion against someone else’s, because we understand that what we have been given is uniquely aligned with who we are and what God has called us to.
Like Joshua, we can learn to walk in humility and trust, knowing that we don’t have to force anything into place. What God has for us will be given, and it will be right and good. 💎

Prayer
Father, thank You that You are intentional in everything You give. Forgive me for the times I have questioned Your plan or compared my life to others. Help me to trust that my portion is given according to Your purpose and that Your heart toward me is always good. Teach me to walk in humility like Joshua, without striving or grasping, knowing that what You have for me will be given in the right time. Fill me with joy and contentment in what You have designed for me, and help me to see it the way You do. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
