Beyond Understanding

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: 1 Samuel 2:22–4:22, John 5:24–47, Psalm 106:1–12, Proverbs 14:30–31

Stop Trying to Figure God Out

We like to understand things. To analyze, process, and make sense of what’s happening. We want clarity, answers, and something we can wrap our minds around so we feel in control.

But God isn’t something you can fully figure out with your mind.

He invites you into something deeper with Him in today’s Gem of Knowledge:

“Feel Me in you and around you. Try to use your heart to feel Me instead of trying to make sense of Me. Just let go and let Me move within you.”

There’s a difference between knowing about God and experiencing Him.

You can know facts, scriptures, and theology—and still miss His presence in the moment.

In John 5, Jesus makes this clear when He says, “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!” (John 5:39, NLT). The people knew the Word, but they missed the One the Word was revealing.

And then He says something even more personal: “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life” (John 5:24, NLT). Notice—listen and believe. Not analyze and fully understand. Relationship, not just information.

Sometimes the reason we feel stuck is because we’re trying to understand what God is asking us to simply trust.

We see the weight of this in 1 Samuel, where people were going through the motions of religion but had lost the reverence and awareness of God’s presence. It became outward activity without inward connection—and it led to loss, confusion, and distance.

God has never been after empty understanding.

He’s after your heart.

Psalm 106 reminds us how quickly people forget and try to take control: “They soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his counsel” (Psalm 106:13, NLT). Instead of trusting, they rushed ahead, relying on what they could grasp instead of resting in what God was doing.

And Proverbs brings it back to the condition of the heart: “A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones” (Proverbs 14:30, NLT). There is a peace that comes—not from having all the answers—but from being settled in Him.

Let go of needing to figure it all out.

There is a place of peace when you stop striving for answers and start resting in His presence.

A place where you don’t have to understand everything—because you trust the One who does.

And in that place… He moves. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take 5 minutes to be with the God today. Ask Him:

  • “Lord, What do You want me to know about this today personally?”
    • Write down what He reveals to you.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Write down what He reveals – then do it!

Take time to just sit with Him and invite His presence – let Him lead your time together.

Prayer

Lord, help me stop trying to figure You out and instead learn to experience You. I don’t want to put You in a box. I want to know You for You, not how I think You should be. Help me to let go of all preconceptions and let You be You because I know You are greater than anything I could imagine. Teach me to recognize Your presence and trust You beyond my understanding. Help me to truly let go and just enjoy You. Amen.
