Today’s One Year Bible Verses: 1 Samuel 5:1–7:17, John 6:1–21, Psalm 106:13–31, Proverbs 14:32–33
Spiritual Eyes Opened
There’s a shift that happens when you truly know God—not just know about Him, but know Him.
It changes everything.
It’s subtle at first, but then it becomes undeniable.
He reveals it simply in today’s Gem:
“You will start to see Me in everything when you know Me. If you don’t know Me, you won’t see Me.”
It’s not that He isn’t there—it’s that we don’t always recognize Him.
In John 6, Jesus performs miracles right in front of people—multiplying food, walking on water—things that should have made His identity unmistakable. And yet, many still missed it. They saw what He did, but they didn’t understand who He was.
Even the disciples had moments of this. After He walked on the water and calmed the storm, Scripture says, “They were totally amazed, for they still didn’t understand the significance of the miracle of the loaves. Their hearts were too hard to take it in” (John 6:51–52, NLT). The miracle was there—but their understanding hadn’t caught up yet.
Seeing God isn’t just about witnessing what He does—it’s about recognizing Him in it.
We see the same contrast in 1 Samuel when the ark of God is placed in the temple of Dagon. The presence of the Lord was undeniable—so much so that “Dagon fell with his face to the ground in front of the ark of the Lord” (1 Samuel 5:3, NLT). Even false gods couldn’t stand in His presence.
God was there. His power was there. But not everyone responded with true recognition.
Psalm 106 shows how easy it is to miss Him even after experiencing His power: “Yet how quickly they forgot what he had done! They wouldn’t wait for his counsel!” (Psalm 106:13, NLT). They saw His works—but they didn’t stay connected to His heart.
And that’s the difference.
When you truly know Him, everything begins to point back to Him—provision, protection, correction, even the quiet, ordinary moments.
You start to notice His hand where you used to see coincidence.
And even in creation, His presence begins to reveal itself. A simple moment—like a butterfly resting gently on your hand—becomes more than just nature. It becomes a glimpse of His design, His creativity, His gentleness… a reminder that He is present even in the smallest details.
A closed door becomes protection.
A delay becomes direction.
A quiet moment becomes His presence.
Proverbs reminds us, “The godly are rescued from trouble, and it falls on the wicked instead” (Proverbs 14:32, NLT). When you walk closely with Him, you begin to recognize His covering, even in ways you once overlooked.
The more you draw near to Him, the clearer your vision becomes.
Not because He suddenly appears—but because your eyes have finally been opened to see that He’s been there all along. 💎
