Finding Peace and Joy at His Feet

With all the things we try to balance in life, peace and joy can sometimes feel hard to find. Between responsibilities, relationships, unexpected challenges, and the constant demands on our time, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. And wouldn’t you know it, the enemy is always right there, ready to whisper doubts, stir up worry, make us question ourselves, and leave us wondering, What am I doing wrong?

This morning, I woke up with 1 John 3:1–6 on my mind. So, I opened my Bible to see what the Lord wanted to show me. The passage begins with a beautiful reminder of how greatly our Heavenly Father loves us, that He would call us His children! It goes on to speak of the hope we have in Christ, becoming like Him when He appears, and the importance of purifying ourselves and turning away from sin as we abide in Him.

Then the Holy Spirit gave me this Gem of Knowledge:

“Want to have peace and joy in all things? Turn to Me and you’ll find it. Read My word, follow My voice, heed My warnings, and find comfort at My feet. There you will find the peace and joy you seek. Amen.”

And suddenly, it all came together.

We spend so much time trying to manage our circumstances in pursuit of peace and happiness. But what if the answer isn’t found in getting everything under control? What if it’s found in drawing closer to the One who already holds everything in His hands?

Think about the questions this Gem presents. Have we truly turned to Him? Are we reading His Word, listening for His voice, and obeying His instructions? Do we heed His warnings, even when they challenge what we want to do? And when life becomes overwhelming, do we actually go to His feet for comfort, or do we exhaust every other option first?

In 1 John 3, we’re reminded that being God’s children isn’t merely a title. It’s a relationship that transforms how we live. Jesus came to take away our sins, not so we could comfortably continue in them, but so we could live in fellowship with Him. As we abide in Christ, our hearts and desires begin to change.

Today’s reading in Ezekiel offers a sobering example of what happens when people refuse to listen to God. Ezekiel witnessed the glory of the Lord departing from the temple because of Israel’s persistent rebellion and idolatry. Can you imagine how heartbreaking that must have been? His calling was anything but easy, and the things God asked him to witness and proclaim were incredibly difficult.

Ezekiel certainly couldn’t depend on his circumstances to bring him peace and joy! His comfort had to come from trusting the Lord who called him. Yet even in the midst of judgment, God promised restoration and a new heart to those He would gather back to Himself.

In Ezekiel 11:19 (NLT), God promises:

“And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them.”

What a beautiful reminder that God desires to transform our hearts and restore our relationship with Him!

Hebrews 6:19 (NLT) tells us:

“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.”

An anchor doesn’t eliminate the storm, but it keeps us from being swept away by it. Likewise, our hope in Jesus doesn’t mean life will always be peaceful, but it gives us a place of security when everything around us feels uncertain.

Psalm 105 reminds us to remember God’s faithfulness throughout history. Even when Joseph was sold into slavery and imprisoned, God was working through circumstances Joseph couldn’t possibly understand. What appeared to be hardship became part of God’s greater plan of provision.

And isn’t that encouraging? We don’t have to understand everything God is doing to trust that He is faithful.

Perhaps the peace and joy we’ve been searching for aren’t missing at all. Perhaps we’ve simply been looking in the wrong places.

Jesus is inviting us to come closer, listen to His voice, trust His Word, obey His leading, and rest at His feet. Not because every problem will immediately disappear, but because His presence is greater than anything we’re facing.

Peace and joy aren’t found in having everything go our way. They’re found in knowing the One who walks with us through it all. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take time to be at the Lord’s feet today, even if only for 5 minutes. Ask Him:

  • “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
    • Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Spend a few quiet moments at His feet today. Read His Word, listen for His voice, and ask Him to reveal anything in your heart that needs to change. Then trust Him enough to obey.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me and calling me Your child. Forgive me for the times I’ve allowed worry, doubt, and the distractions of life to pull my attention away from You. Help me recognize the enemy’s lies and replace them with the truth of Your Word. Give me a heart that listens, trusts, and obeys Your voice. Teach me to come to Your feet first, rather than searching everywhere else for comfort. Thank You for being my peace, my joy, and the anchor of my soul. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
