Today’s One Year Bible Reading: Ezekiel 12:1–14:11, Hebrews 7:1–17, Psalm 105:37–45, Proverbs 27:3

Believe! That’s All It Takes

Have you ever noticed how difficult we can make something that God intended to be simple? We analyze, question, worry, doubt, and often try to figure everything out before we’re willing to trust Him. We want answers, explanations, and preferably a little evidence that everything is going to work out the way we hope. But faith doesn’t always come with an explanation, and sometimes God simply asks us to believe.

This morning, the Holy Spirit gave me one of the shortest Gems of Knowledge I’ve ever received, yet its message couldn’t be more powerful. He said,

“Believe! That’s all it takes. Believe. Amen.”

That’s it. Believe!

But what does it really mean to believe God? Is it simply acknowledging that He exists, or is it trusting Him enough to take Him at His Word, even when our circumstances tell us something different?

Today’s reading in Ezekiel gives us a sobering example of what happens when people refuse to believe what God is telling them. Through Ezekiel, the Lord repeatedly warned Israel of the judgment that was coming, yet the people continued to dismiss His words. They had convinced themselves that the warnings wouldn’t come to pass, or at least not anytime soon.

In Ezekiel 12:28 (NLT), God declares:

“No more delay! I will now do everything I have threatened! I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken!”

The people had become so accustomed to hearing God’s warnings without seeing their immediate fulfillment that they stopped taking Him seriously. Their unbelief wasn’t simply a lack of understanding. It was a refusal to trust and obey what God had already revealed.

And isn’t that something we still struggle with today?

We say we believe God, but when He asks us to step out in faith, forgive someone, surrender something, or trust Him with an uncertain future, suddenly we want guarantees.

We want to see the outcome before we take the first step.

Yet believing God means trusting His character, His wisdom, and His faithfulness, even when we cannot see what He’s doing.

Psalm 105 recounts the incredible ways God provided for Israel. He delivered them from Egypt, guided them through the wilderness, provided food and water, and fulfilled His promises to Abraham. Again and again, God demonstrated that He could be trusted.

Psalm 105:42 (NLT) tells us:

“For he remembered his sacred promise to his servant Abraham.”

God didn’t forget what He had promised, even when generations passed before its fulfillment. His faithfulness wasn’t dependent on how quickly His people understood His plan.

And then we come to Hebrews 7, where we’re reminded that Jesus is our eternal High Priest. Unlike the priests who came before Him, His priesthood is not temporary or limited by human weakness. He lives forever, and His authority rests in the power of an indestructible life.

What a wonderful reason to believe!

Our faith isn’t based on wishful thinking or blind optimism. It’s grounded in the living Jesus Christ, who conquered death and remains faithful forever.

But here’s something important: believing God doesn’t mean we’ll never have questions, experience fear, or face difficult circumstances. It means choosing to trust Him in the midst of them.

And genuine belief changes how we live. When we believe His promises, we learn to rest in His faithfulness. When we believe His warnings, we take them seriously. When we believe His instructions, we obey, even when we don’t fully understand.

Perhaps that’s why today’s Gem is so beautifully simple. God isn’t asking us to have every answer, figure out every detail, or accomplish everything on our own.

He’s asking us to believe Him.

Because when we truly believe God, trusting and obeying Him becomes the natural response of a heart that knows He is faithful. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take 5 minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him:

  • “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
    • Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Let today be a day of walking in belief. Read what His Word says, remember how He has been faithful in the past, and choose to believe Him enough to take the next step in obedience.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for being faithful to every promise You make. Forgive me for the times I’ve allowed fear, doubt, or my own understanding to stand in the way of trusting You. Strengthen my faith and help me believe Your Word, heed Your warnings, and follow Your instructions. Remind me that I don’t need to understand everything to trust You. Teach me to walk by faith, confident in Your goodness and Your perfect wisdom. In Your beautiful name I pray, Jesus, Amen.
